Tampa Bay Lightning star Vincent Lecavalier will undergo surgery on his injured shoulder and won't be available to play for Team Canada at this year's world men's hockey championships.
Lecavalier dislocated his right shoulder during Thursday's 4-1 loss in Washington when he fell awkwardly after a hit by the Capitals' Matt Cooke.

Tests on Friday showed Lecavalier, who finishes the season with 40 goals and 92 points, damaged the labrum of his right shoulder. A date for surgery and the establishment of a rehab schedule should come in seven to 10 days when inflammation subsides.
Recovery time is expected to be 12 to 15 weeks, which means Lecavalier could be ready for the start of training camp next season.
"While I'm disappointed to be facing surgery at this time, I'm looking forward to working hard during the summer to be ready for training camp in September," Lecavalier said in a statement.
Halifax and Quebec City are co-hosting the 2008 world men's hockey championships, which gets underway May 2.
