The first NHL trade deadline deal is in the books.
The St. Louis Blues sent defenceman Bryce Salvador to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Cam Janssen ahead of Tuesday's 3 p.m. ET NHL trade deadline.
"We feel that Cam's style of play will bring energy and grit to our lineup and being from St. Louis, feel that he will be an instant fan favourite here," said Blues president John Davidson.
"Our depth at defence enabled us to make this move. We admire and respect Bryce as a player for what he did on and off the ice in St. Louis, and thank Bryce and his wife April for their contributions as members of our family."
Janssen, 23, was born in St. Louis and was New Jersey's fourth-round choice (117th overall) in the 2002 NHL entry draft.
Salvador, 32, had spent his entire career with the Blues, tallying 63 points in 447 career NHL games over seven seasons.
"In Bryce Salvador, we have acquired a veteran NHL defenceman with good size and strength who plays a physical game," said Devils president and GM Lou Lamoriello. "We look forward to the depth Bryce will bring to our roster."
