Zellers issued a recall Monday of its two-piece baby sleeper and bootie sets, saying buttons on the sleepers contain lead paint.
The recall affects the Cherokee Baby short-sleeved, striped sets sold in sizes zero to 12 months. Zellers began selling the sleepers, which were imported by Hbc from Sumeet Exports of India, in January 2008.
Zellers on Monday announced a recall of infant sleepers and booties sold across Canada.

"Hbc discovered through its quality assurance process that the buttons on the sleeper are different than the ones originally ordered and that the new buttons are painted using lead paint," the company said in a release.
"As this contravenes Hbc's safety standards, the company has removed the sleepers from stores and is advising customers of this potential hazard."
High amounts of lead can harm the nervous system, kidneys and other major organs. Anemia, a decline in red blood cells, can occur, as can damage to the nervous system that may impair mental function. At worst, lead poisoning can cause seizures or death.
Consumers are advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
