The Nashville Predators secured their all-time leading scorer David Legwand to a six-year, $27-million US contract extension on Friday.

Legwand, who has spent his entire eight seasons with the Predators, has scored seven goals and 14 assists this year.

He is the franchises all-time leader in goals (113) and points (304) and sits second in games played (510) and assists (191).

"This is the first step moving forward under new ownership and is a sign of commitment, a desire to win and a desire to keep the core of our young team together in Nashville," said Predators executive vice-president and GM David Poile.

"David Legwand continues to improve and take on a larger role each season. He is entering the prime of his career, and we feel that he is becoming one of the league's most complete players."
  
Last season, Legwand posted career highs with 27 goals, 36 assists and 63 points.
