Seattle-based Starbucks is recalling about 167,000 "Fusion" coffee mugs in Canada and the U.S. because the handles may detach, creating a burn hazard, the company said Thursday.
The company has learned of 23 incidents in which the handles separated from the mug. Nine cases of minor burns have been reported, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall affects the 14-ounce Fusion mugs, which have a black handle and a stainless steel base. The mugs, stamped with "Starbucks Coffee," were sold in Canada and the U.S. while the mugs stamped with the original logo were sold only at the Starbucks Pike Place store in Seattle, Wash. Both mugs, priced at about $11 US, were sold from February 2007 through November 2007.
The mugs were manufactured in China.
Consumers should stop using the mugs and contact the company for a refund.
