Jason LaRue agreed Monday to a one-year, $850,000 US contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.
LaRue, 33, can make an additional $350,000 US in performance incentives.

He replaces Gary Bennett as the backup catcher behind Yadier Molina.
LaRue played 66 games for the Kansas City Royals last season, averaging a career-low .148 with four home runs, 13 runs batted in and 14 runs scored.
He spent his first eight major-league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds.
LaRue is a lifetime .233 hitter with 88 HRs, 316 RBIs and 277 runs in 781 MLB games since making his debut with Cincinnati on June 15, 1999.
