Some Hershey's chocolate bars recalled due to contamination could still be in stores, Toronto police are warning consumers and retailers.

Police said they arrested two men in possession of eight pallets of Hershey's chocolate products on Tuesday. Authorities allege the chocolate was stolen from the Turtle Island Recycling Depot on Cherry Street.

"51 Division officers, working with Hershey's employees, believe that a very small amount of this product reached either the retail or food supply chain," the authorities said in a release.

The products had been sent to the facility for disposal after Hershey's Canada issued a recall of its chocolate for salmonella contamination.

Kirk Saville, a Hershey spokesman, said it is "extremely unlikely that any of the stolen product was distributed to retail outlets. We are co-operating with law enforcement officials to resolve this matter as quickly as possible."

The recalled batch numbers, printed on the backs of the packages, range from 6417 to 6455.

In November, Hershey issued a voluntary recall of a range of products after a routine plant inspection found salmonella in an ingredient .
