Health Canada is warning consumers not to use the sexual enhancer XOX For Men, because it contains an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient, tadalafil, which is associated with serious health side effects.
Officials are worried about the potential for heart attacks, angina, irregular heart rate, or stroke. While extremely rare, tadalafil can also lead to penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency.
Patients with heart problems, those taking heart medication, or those at risk of stroke have the greatest chance of suffering side effects from tadalafil.
XOX For Men is advertised as a natural sex enhancer and while it is not authorized for sale in Canada, it was sold in a number of retail outlets in the province of Quebec.
Health Canada says it has contacted the Canadian importer, which is now recalling the product. Consumers who have purchased XOX For Men are warned not to use it and to talk to a doctor if they have concerns about their health. XOX For Men comes in the form of a blue capsule.
Products containing tadalafil should be available only with a prescription written by a doctor. The ingredient is contained in the prescription drug Cialis, designed to help with erectile dysfunction.
There have been no reportsĀ of adverse reactions associated with the product.
Consumers requiring more information can contact Health Canada at (613) 957-2991, or toll free at 1-866-225-0709.
