A U.S. company says it expects to decide within months whether it will build a launch pad for space vehicles in Cape Breton.

Chicago-based PlanetSpace Inc. wants to send rockets into space, both to service space stations and to carry tourists.

The company's plans took a big step forward this week when it signed an agreement with NASA to share technical information about space vehicles and crews.

PlanetSpace chair Chrinjeev Kathuria said the company has been working closely with officials from Nova Scotia Business Inc. and has settled on three possible sites.

"I would say we're in final discussion with the province," said Kathuria. "If you were to ask my thoughts, I think it's very likely that it would go through."

Kathuria won't say where the launch pad might go.
