General manager Eric Tillman continues to tinker with the Saskatchewan Roughriders' offensive line.

Four-time all-star guard Andrew Greene was officially waived Thursday by the Canadian Football League team, one day after Tillman confirmed he cut loose defensive tackle Nate Davis.

"I've talked to a few of my teammates and they were shocked,'' Greene told the Regina Leader-Post. "I spoke with Nate, too, and he's definitely shocked.''

In a released statement, Tillman said he attempted to trade Davis and Greene and "the door remains open for future discussions."

The Roughriders are trying to get younger and cheaper for the 2007 season under the league's enforced salary management system.

The CFL's outstanding offensive lineman in 2003, Greene, 37, spent six of his nine professional seasons in Saskatchewan, where he lives year-round.

His fate was decided Wednesday after Tillman acquired non-import offensive lineman Wayne Smith, 27, in a trade with Hamilton.

There was also some concern about a sore neck that bothered Greene last season. He underwent surgery in 2003.

"I wouldn't say I'm done. It's not dead at all. I'm working out, getting prepared for another season," Greene told the Leader-Post. "I'll make sure I'm somewhere else, but you never know where things are going to go. I'm going to weigh my options."

Davis's days as a Rider appeared numbered after the team signed NFL castoff Jermaine Haley.

There were also concerns about Davis's conditioning — the 32-year-old was consistently 20 to 40 pounds above his playing weight of 315, according to reports.
