Canadian cross-country skiing stars Beckie Scott and Sara Renner have three Olympic medals between them. Now they're taking aim at a spot in the Guinness World Records book.

Scott, Renner and another 106 skiers will attempt to set the record for the longest ski train.

Led by the Canadian cross-country queens, the train will use the largest cross-country skis — a record 108 metres long — to go 100 metres.

The existing record for longest skis made is 104.8 metres, and were worn simultaneously by 101 ski instructors in Selva Gardena, Italy.

The event, part of the kickoff of a national youth ski tournament, will take place on Thursday at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Scott, the most decorated cross-country skier in Canadian history, retired from competition earlier this year.

In February, Scott teamed with Renner to capture an Olympic silver medal in the team sprint event at the Torino Winter Games.

Scott also won a gold medal at the Salt Lake City Winter Games in 2002.

Renner, who's married to four-time Olympic alpine skier Thomas Grandi, is taking the year off from cross-country skiing to have a baby, due in February.
