P.E.I. is working on a plan to establish an addiction centre for young people, Health and Social Services Minister Chester Gillan told question period on Friday.

'We know that the need is there.'— Health Minister Chester Gillan

Liberal Leader Robert Ghiz had been pressing the minister on where youth with addictions are supposed to go.

"We will be pursuing it for sure," Gillan responded.

"We know that the need is there, Mr. Speaker. We are going to work on it. It's now at the point of where best should it be located, what it will look like, who it will serve. All of those details we are now looking at."

Gillan admitted the Island's only facility now is the provincial addictions centre in Mount Herbert. He expects to make an announcement about the youth centre in the new year.
