Canadian goalkeeper Pat Onstad stopped New England's Jay Heaps to win a penalty shootout Sunday as the Houston Dynamo claimed the Major League Soccer championship.
The Dynamo won the shootout 4-3 after the teams finished tied at 1-1 after 30 minutes overtime.

Toronto's Dwayne De Rosario did his part for the Dynamo, converting his penalty kick in the shootout. Toronto's Adrian Serioux also started for Houston.
Faced with a must-goal in the fifth and final set of penalty kicks, Heaps saw Vancouver 'keeper Onstad block his low drive to the left side of the goal.
It was 0-0 after 90 minutes but there were two late goals in overtime.
Brian Ching scored the tying goal for Houston a minute and 11 seconds after New England's Taylor Twellman struck what appeared to be the winner in the 113th minute.
The game was the first MLS Cup final to be decided on penalty kicks — though in the second overtime, the Revolution appeared just minutes away from victory when Twellman charged up the field, split two defenders and shot the ball into opposite corner of the net past sliding Dynamo defender Kelly Gray.
But as Revolution fans celebrated amid a crowd largely dominated by Dynamo fans who made the short drive from Houston, Ching headed in the tying goal off a long cross from Brian Mullan.
"I didn't think we were going to get one," Ching said, "but we were going to die trying."
Ching later scored the winning penalty kick in the fifth set, hesitating on his approach before knocking the ball past New England's Matt Reis. He was named the game's MVP.
The loss was the third defeat in the league championship for the Revolution, who lost 1-0 in overtime to Los Angeles last year. New England also made the final game and lost in 2002.
It's the third MLS championship for De Rosario and the second for Onstad. They won the 2003 title with the San Jose Earthquakes and De Rosario also won in 2001 with the Quakes when he was named MVP of the final.
