A 25-year-old man from the community of Sanikiluaq was killed in a shooting accident Monday, Nunavut RCMP say.
Walter Michael Meeko died after he was shot by a gun laying on the back of an ATV, said Cpl. Randy Slawson in Iqaluit Wednesday.
"An individual had come back from a goose hunting trip and had a firearm strapped to an ATV," said Slawson.

"Subsequently a child came to the ATV and was climbing on the ATV and the gun ended up discharging and striking the victim."
Police want to talk to anyone in the community of 800 who may have seen the accident.
Sanikiluaq is Nunavut's most southerly community, located on the Belcher Islands in Hudson Bay.
