Police in Quebec are examining the cellphone belonging to Bloc Québécois MP Benoît Sauvageau, and 911 calls made on the phone before his fatal crash on Monday.
Sauvageau crashed into the back of a tow truck on the side of the road in Repentigny, east of Montreal. Police said there were no skid marks on the road.
The newspaper Le Journal de Montreal said Wednesday the phone is being examined to see if it was being used at the time of the accident.
Police said the contents of 911 calls, made just before the crash, have been forwarded to the coroner.
Sauvageau, who represented the riding of Repentigny, was first elected to Parliament in October 1993.
Since 2004, Sauvageau had been the Bloc Québécois's Treasury Board critic. He previously held critic's posts for departments ranging from amateur sport to international trade, public accounts and official languages.
