Francois Giguere has returned to the Colorado Avalanche, this time as their new general manager.

Giguere was officially introduced Wednesday as the NHL club's GM at a news conference in Denver.

"When we listed all the necessary attributes for this position, one name became clear in our minds," said Avalanche president Pierre Lacroix. "Francois embodies all the requirements a strong executive needs in today's NHL."

The 42-year-old Giguere, who has served as an assistant GM with the Dallas Stars since January 2002, spent 12 seasons in various front-office capacities with the Colorado organization, which moved from Quebec in 1995.

He was an assistant GM with the Avalanche for five years before leaving for Dallas.

Giguere takes over from Lacroix, who rescinded his GM duties on May 12.

"If I had any intention to not be the best resource for Francois, why would I have done what I did 12 days ago?" Lacroix said.
