The injury occurred in Game 1 of the Rangers' Eastern Conference quarter-final series against the New Jersey Devils.

Jagr left in the third period after attempting to check Devils forward Scott Gomez. The hit grazed Gomez and Jagr awkwardly regained his balance before skating hunched over to the Rangers' bench.

After missing Game 2, Jagr returned for the third game but was mostly ineffective. He also played in Game 4, but was hurt again on a check by New Jersey's Brad Lukowich less than a minute into the contest and did not return.

The Rangers were swept in four games by the Devils.

Jagr tallied 54 goals and 69 assists in the regular season to finish second in the league in both goals and points.

Jagr set Rangers records for the most goals, points and power-play goals (24) in a season as New York reached the post-season for the first time since 1997.

The Rangers also announced that minor-league goaltender Al Montoya had surgery on Monday to repair a dislocated left shoulder. Montoya had a record of 23-9-1 with a 2.61 goals-against average in 40 games with Hartford of the AHL.
