Tale of Middle Earth lords it over Oscar nominations

The fantasy film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring led the pack with 13 Academy Award nominations Tuesday, including best picture, director and supporting actor.

Other best picture nominees are A Beautiful Mind, the true story of Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash's struggle with schizophrenia; Robert Altman's satirical murder mystery Gosford Park; the revenge drama In the Bedroom; and the unconventional musical Moulin Rouge.

A Beautiful Mind and Moulin Rouge each earned eight nominations, including acting nominations for Moulin Rouge's Nicole Kidman and A Beautiful Mind's Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly.

The 74th annual Academy Awards ceremony will be televised from Hollywood on March 24.
