Head of cardiology quits

Last Updated: Friday, October 5, 2001 | 10:01 PM ET

The Head of Cardiology for the Regina Health District has resigned. Dr. Naiyer Habib says he was frustrated with the system and couldn't do the job any longer.

"I personally felt... enough of this, I cannot progress cardiology and I'm just wasting my time," said Habib.

Dr Naiyer Habib is ending his term of more than 20 years, as head of the section of cardiology.

The CBC obtained a copy of a letter regarding his resignation. In the letter, he tells the Health District that the standard of care for cardiology patients is moving backwards.

Habib tells the health district there aren't enough beds for heart patients, meaning cardiac patients are sometimes put in other wards.

Habib says he's been raising these concerns for a long time, but that no changes are being made.
