Krieger is the Calgary man who has been fighting for years for the legal right to possess, grow and use marijuana. He has multiple sclerosis and he says pot eases his symptoms.
Krieger's lawyer, Adriano Iovenelli, says his client has twice been acquitted on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Yet, Krieger is still getting arrested on a regular basis.
Iovenelli says his client's lengthy court battles are costing the system a lot of money, since legal aid pays all of Krieger's legal bills. "They're telling people they're allowed to possess pot for medicinal purposes. But we're not giving you a legitimate source of it. So all these cases are coming to court. And if that's what the federal government wants, my door is open."
As well this week, the Crown notified Krieger it is appealing his acquittal on a previous trafficking charge. No date has been set for the appeal.
