Lightning killed one person and injured more than a dozen other people in Quebec on Saturday.

A 16-year-old girl was killed in Chelsea, in the Outaouais region.

She was outside playing volleyball with a friend, when both were hit by a bolt of lightning.

Police say the girl died instantly. Her friend, a 17-year-old boy, was slightly injured.

In Montreal, fifteen people suffered minor injuries at a soccer game at Mackenzie King Park, in the Cote des Neiges district.

They had taken shelter from the storm under some trees.

Most of the injured had burns to the feet and to the hands.

Urgences Sante official, Andre Champagne, says none of the injuries was serious. "They were taken to hospital," he said, "as a precautionary measure."
