The P.E.I. Human Rights Commission has ruled in favour of a couple who claimed a Prince Edward Island tourist operation discriminated against them because of sexual orientation. Jean Bedard and his partner were refused a single room when they arrived at the Beach View Bed and Breakfast in Stratford last August.
Bedard says he was "embarrassed, humiliated and angry" after the owners told the couple couldn't sleep in the same bed.
Under the settlement, owner Arnost Cepica is paying each of the Montreal men $500.
Business Closes
In a news release, the human right commission says the owners have agreed to close the B&B.
The commission says if the Beach View Bed and Breakfast opens again, the owners will have to agree to comply with the Human Rights Act.
The owner of the bed and breakfast refused to comment on the case and the settlement.
