Quebec's pension fund, the Caisse de Dépôt is helping Colorado businessman George Gillett buy the Montreal Canadiens hockey team and the Molson Centre.
A subsidiary of the Caisse is lending $140 million to Gillett, completing the financing of Gillett's $275-million purchase of the hockey team and arena.
Molson retains a 20% stake in the hockey club.
A spokesperson for the Caisse says the loan is a deal that meets the pension fund's highest investment criteria.
