The province's Water Resources Department is predicting heavy rainfall in the Red River basin area between Emerson and Grand Forks for Friday.

A spokesperson with the department says it will consider closing Highway 75 at the north end of Morris if the area receives between 15 and 20 millimetres of rain by Saturday.

Also, the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health is advising all well owners affected by flooding to boil water before drinking it. Residents should also bring all water used for washing foods and brushing teeth to a rolling boil to prevent bacterial infections.

Local states of emergencies are still in effect in the Rural Municipalities of Montcalm, Siglunes, Westbourne, St. Laurent, Grahamdale, Woodlands and Franklin. In the Ashern area, motorists are being advised to take caution at two locations on Highway 6 due to water being pumped over the road.

About 14 farms and hundreds of animals are being threatened by flooding outside the southern Manitoba town of St. Jean.

R.M. of Montcalm Montcalm Reeve Roger Vermette says crews are cutting ditches through roads around some of the farmland in an effort to help drain the water. Vermette says the R.M. is trying to come up with some long-term solutions to the persistent flooding problem.

"We're working as a group with the Roseau River International Watershed to see if there are solutions. They include possibly retaining water on the American side, probably making a dam at Gardington, or having bridges so the water can drain faster. These are options that are being studied right now."
