People calling the toll-free number for the Mount Herbert Addictions Centre in P.E.I. are getting a surprise. Instead of getting a health care professional, they'll speak with a fireplace retailer in Houston, Texas.

The number listed in Island Tel's phone book is wrong, and there's no way to correct the mistake till the next phone book is issued.

"We get a lot of calls, for the center," say The Fireplace Man's Wilma West. "They're asking usually for someone, or information."

The manager of the fireplace store says she has been getting calls everyday, for nearly a year, looking for the addictions center.

Worse yet, the Texas company has to pay for every wrong number placed to its 1-800 line.

The manager of Addiction Services for the Queen's Region Health says ads were placed in the newspaper last March with the right number.

Jim Campbell says calls to any of the addictions centres across P.E.I. can be patched to the main centre in Mount Herbert.

Campbell says he's sure everyone who needs help with an addiction is getting it.
