Students in the Beaufort Delta will be hitting the books when they get home from school from now on. The Beaufort-Delta Education Council is forcing all schools to implement a new homework policy.

Students in grades seven to 12 will get up to an hour and a half of homework each day.

In elementary school, they will get up to half an hour.

James Anderson, the director of the Beaufort Delta education council, says the new policy will instill in students a sense of responsibility, accountability and motivation.

"Homework has been a fact of life in many of our schools in the lives of many of our students," he says. "And this was an opportunity to formalize a policy to that end."

The schools will implement the policy by the new year.
