A man identified as Evan Brown was arrested after the incident and is being questioned by police. He is a 23 year old resident of Nova Scotia now living in Charlottetown.
He said he is a member a group which calls itself the "Pie Brigade".
As he was being taken away he said he had done it on behalf of many victimized groups in the country.
Chretien is on a one-day visit to the Island.
The tour of the exhibition was one of three public appearances scheduled during the visit.
Wednesday afternoon he will play a round of golf with Premier Pat Binns, UPEI President Wade MacLaughlan, and Prince Edward Island golf star Lorie Kane.
In the evening he will pay a visit to St. Peter's Bay, P.E.I. where he will attend an ice cream social hosted by Solicitor General and Island MP Lawrence MacAulay.
