CBC Radio has learned NB Power is suing the Daily Gleaner over an editorial cartoon. The cartoon portrays James Hankinson, the president and CEO of the corporation as Chuckles the Clown.
In papers filed with the Court of Queens Bench this month, NB Power states the cartoon is defamatory, and implies Hankinson is unfit to be in the position of president and CEO.
The papers state the cartoon has "severely injured" NB Power and its management and claims general damages.
The lawsuit also names Greg Perry, the creator of the cartoon and columnist Brent Taylor.
NB Power is suing the former MLA for an editorial he wrote about the corporation and its president.
The editor of the Daily Gleaner declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Editorial cartoonist Greg Perry and columnist Brent Taylor were unavailable.
