A bridge near Charleston in Queens County collapsed Wednesday after a loaded pulp truck dropped into the Medway river.

The truck and the bridge fell about three metres.

The driver of the truck has been hospitalized with two broken vertebrae and it's not known how long it will take to replace the bridge.

"It's going to tie things up for a long while," says resident George Laing. "The fire hall is on the other side of the river."

Transportation officials said the job of getting the truck and the bridge out of the river would start later today.
