City Councillor Howard Moscoe Tuesday said TTC subways and terminals are a mess because passengers are leaving behind free newspapers.
"There's a flood of free newspapers being distributed, and they're all ending up on the floor," he said.
FYI Toronto, Metro, and GTA Today are daily tabloids available at subway stations.
The TTC has hired students to pick up the litter, but Moscoe said the TTC shouldn't have to pay for it.
"Here's the cost of it, pay up. Pay your share or cease and desist," he said.
"It's unimaginable that this is happening in the new millenium and I challenge either these papers or the TTC to get that blue box out in the subway system today and start saving trees," Shelley Petrie of the Toronto Environmental Alliance, said Tuesday.
