The speaker of the Ontario legislature is not backing down in the face of a court ruling concerning the Lord's Prayer.

Gary Carr says the legislature won't drop the prayer despite a ruling that reciting it before each day's proceedings is unconstitutional.

Carr says any decision to remove the prayer would have to be made by the 103 members of the House.

And he says most members he has heard from want to keep it.

The Canadian Jewish Congress wants Ontario to comply with the court of appeal ruling.

Only legislatures in Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island continue to use the Lord's Prayer as part of their daily routine.
