This week, engineers with the Primary Ozone Disinfection System will start replacing chlorine at the Coquitlam Watershed.
They'll inject water at the Coquitlam watershed with ozone.
That means cleaner water for Greater Vancouver residents.
Doug Neden is with the Water Treatment and Research office at the Greater Vancouver Regional District. He says in two months, when Ozone is used full-time, the water supply will improve.
"Ozone is a much better disinfectant than chlorine," he says. "It's stronger, it disinfects more quickly and it doesn't have the by-products that chlorine has."
Ozone is also better at killing waterborne parasites.
The new treatment won't change the taste or odour of the Greater Vancouver water supply - but it might make it look a little different.
Neden says Ozone will create more oxygen so people should be aware they might see a few more bubbles in your water than normal, but they aren't harmful.
