Roger D. Landry is retiring after two decades at the helm of La Presse.

The 66-year-old publisher and editor-in-chief replaced Roger Lemelin in 1980.

André Desmarais, president of Power Corporation and owner of La Presse, says Landry made the decision to spend more time with his family.

Landry told Desmarais several factors led to his decision -- including the deaths of his wife and his deputy publisher, Claude Masson, who was killed Oct. 31 on EgyptAir flight 990.

Desmarais says a successor to Landry will be named within several days.
