While some Reformers are debating the idea of forming a United Alternative party, MP's in this province say there is talk of creating a separatist western party.

Allan Kerpan is the MP for Blackstrap. He says farmers are unhappy with Ottawa. And now, some Reform supporters are suggesting there be a Western-based party that focusses on separation.

Not everyone agrees, though. Elwin Hermanson is the leader of the Saskatchewan Party and a former Reform MP. He says farmers in the West need a strong voice in Ottawa, and that means a national political party.

"We're seeing the current government taking agriculture for granted," says Hermanson. "And to a degree, take Saskatchewan for granted. If there was a stronger challenge - I don't care if it was Reform or UA - as much as I'm concerned that the new government pay attention to Saskatchewan."

The Reform Party will vote on the United Alternative idea at their convention later this month in Ottawa.
