The Swissair memorial site at Whalesback, near Peggy's Cove, was officially dedicated on Wednesday.

The ceremony recognized the 229 people who died in last year's crash of Flight 111 -- as well as those who took part in the search and recovery operation.

Two hundred volunteers and more than six hundred Swissair family members stood together during the ceremony along the winding gravel pathway that leads to two granite monuments.

Premier John Hamm read the inscription on the monuments and officially dedicated the site.
