The waters off Peggy's Cove are now considered sacred.
Relatives of those who died on board Swissair flight 1-11 consecrated the place where the plane crashed on Thursday morning.
The consecration ceremony was held on a chartered boat directly over the site where the plane went down one year ago, about 11 kilometres from shore.
Rabbi Joshua Mann was one of six clergy who performed the ceremony. His brother, Dr Jonathon Mann was a world-renowned AIDS researcher who died in the crash.
After the words of consecration were said, family members dropped flowers into the sea.
A Sea King helicopter flew over the site as well...dropping a memorial wreath.
