B.C. homeowners who pulled the plug on radiant heat ceiling panels will get $12.5 millions dollars for their trouble. The homeowners have settled their class action suit against the panel manufacturers, the B.C. government, various municipalities and the Canadian Standards Association.

Deborah Acheron is the lawyer for the homeowners. She says details of the mediated settlement are confidential but she's very pleased with the outcome. This lawsuit was only the second suit completed in B.C. since class action suits were first allowed in 1995. Acheron says, "This one worked extremely well."

Each homeowner will get between $3,000 and $10,000 but anyone can opt out if they don't think the settlement is adequate.

Jim Campbell was one of the original plaintiffs. He says, "It would be very difficult for an individual party if they chose to opt out to once they ascertain the costs of litigation...it would be almost impossible to recover their costs."

Homeowners who registered in the class action suit will be notified of their settlement by letter early next week.
