There was some damaging testimony in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver today. Former Social Credit cabinet minister Jack Kempf said then-premier Bill Vander Zalm pressured him to break the law a decade ago.
Kempf was testifying during a civil law suit launched by the developers of a proposed resort called Powder Mountain just north Squamish. Nan and Diane Hartwick are suing the Province of B.C. and Bill Vander Zalm for damages after the resort plan was suddenly cancelled in the late 1980's.
Kempf was the minister responsible at the time. In B.C. Supreme Court today, he said he fully endorsed the Hartwicks' proposal but found himself pressured to look at another plan involving one of Vander Zalm's friends.
