Searchers have recovered one of three engines from the Swissair jet that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Nova Scotia last month.

Lt. Paul Forget, a spokesman for the Halifax Rescue Coordination Centre, said an engine from the MD-11 plane was recovered on Friday.

Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic just off Peggy's Cove on Sept. 2, killing all 229 people aboard.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.

Heavy lifting cranes are trying to get as much of the wreckage removed from the ocean floor as possible, before winter storms begin.
