A Royal Airlines Boeing 757 made an emergency landing at Goose Bay, Labrador, early this morning after the pilot discovered smoke in the cockpit. All 225 people on board were safe.

The Boeing 757, en route from Toronto to Glasgow, was near CFB Goose Bay when the pilot radioed that he would be making an emergency landing, said Capt. David Muralt.

"The landing was made without incident and everybody's on the ground safe and that's what's really important," said Muralt.

Royal Airlines has sent a repair crew to the scene. It is not known what went wrong.

The incident came less than 36 hours after a Swissair jetliner plunged into the Altantic off Nova Scotia, killing all 229 people aboard.
