Forget about the fish war. This week British Columbia Premier Glen Clark headed south to the United States to fight his latest battle, the film war.

Clark and representatives from the B.C. film industry have been wooing some of the biggest movers and shakers in Hollywood. Clark is pushing his province as a destination for U.S. movie-making dollars.

Canada's film production industry pulls in $2.8 billion a year. Recently other provinces have been competing for their share of the booming business, offering up tax incentives to foreign studios.

Americans like filming in B.C. The Canadian dollar stretches their production budgets. Vancouver is in the same time zone as Los Angeles. There is an abundance of scenic locations, trained crews and well-equipped studios.

But other provinces are offering better tax incentives. This week Clark said he'll soon make Hollywood an offer of incentives, in order to protect the province's $630-million-a-year industry.
