Dingo attacks on the rise in Australian parks

Last Updated: Friday, November 13, 1998 | 11:18 PM ET

There has been another dingo attack on campers in Australia. A wild dog dragged a 13-month-old baby girl from a tent on Fraser Island, off Australia's northeast coast.

The girl was rescued by her father. But in the last few weeks several hikers have been attacked by the dogs.

The latest incident recalls a sensational court case in Australia.

In 1981 a woman was charged with killing her baby after she claimed it was dragged away by dingos.

The woman was convicted but later exonerated and paid over $1 million Australian in compensation.

The incident was turned into a feature film, A Cry in the Dark, starring Meryl Streep.
