The Liberals made significant headway in the greater Quebec City region in Monday's provincial election, all at the expense of the faltering Action Démocratique du Québec.
The Liberals took seven of 12 seats, seizing the ridings of Charlesbourg, Jean-Lesage, Lévis, Montmorency and Vanier from the ADQ.
Meanwhile, Liberal Health Minister Yves Bolduc was re-elected in Jean-Talon and Liberal Employment Minister Sam Hamad was re-elected in Louis-Hébert.
The Liberals went into Monday's vote with just two seats in the region, compared with eight held by the ADQ.
The ADQ, which unseated incumbent Liberal ministers and sitting PQ MNAs from the Quebec City area in the 2007 general election, only held on to three ridings on Monday — Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, Chauveau and La Peltrie.
The PQ took two ridings in the region, with PQ Leader Pauline Marois winning in Charlevoix and Agnès Maltais triumphing in Taschereau.
