The coattails of ADQ Leader Mario Dumont were not enough to stop the Liberals from encroaching on his political property in eastern Quebec.
Dumont easily won re-election in Rivière-du-Loup, the personal political fortress he's held since 1994.
But the inroads the ADQ made in 2007 in the ridings of Bellechase and Montmagny-L'Islet, where the party defeated Liberals, were brushed aside only 20 months later. Both ADQ seats switched to the Liberals.
Liberal Dominique Vien defeated the ADQ's Jean Domingue in Bellechase.
Elsewhere, Liberal candidate Norbert Morin, who lost the riding of Montmagny-L'Islet in 2007, was victorious in the rematch against the ADQ's Claude Roy.
The PQ maintained their grip on the riding of René-Lévesque where Marjolain Dufour was re-elected.
Natural Resources Minister Claude Béchard maintained the Liberal hold in Kamouraska-Témiscouata.
The eastern Quebec region includes ridings lying along the south shore of the St. Lawrence between Quebec City and the Gaspé.
