Voters in the Châteauguay Valley rejected the Action Démocratique du Québec, turfing the party's MNAs in the region.
When the provincial election was called, the ADQ held three of the region's eight ridings, the Liberals held four and the Parti Québécois had a single member. That tally includes Iberville MNA André Riedl, who defected to the Liberals in October from the faltering ADQ.
On Monday night, the PQ's Marie Bouillé defeated Riedl, who tried to hang on to his seat as a Liberal.
The region's closest race was in the riding of Châteauguay. Liberal Pierre Moreau hung on to the seat, winning by slightly more than one per cent of the vote over PQ candidate Michel Pinard.
The Liberals kept their seat in the riding of Vaudreuil, where Liberal Yvon Marcoux was re-elected, and Lucie Charlebois won her third term in Soulanges.
The Parti Québécois kept the riding of Beauharnois, with Guy Leclair winning with almost 50 per cent of the vote.
The Action Démocratique du Québec fought to keep the ridings of Huntingdon, La Prairie and Saint-Jean, but it struck out.
In Huntingdon, Liberal Stéphane Billette defeated ADQ incumbent Albert de Martin. In Saint-Jean, the ADQ's Lucille Méthé lost to PQ candidate Dave Turcotte.
And in La Prairie, ADQ incumbent Monique Roy Verville lost to PQ candidate François Rebello.
