The mayor of Val-des-Monts, Que., will be running for the Liberals in the seat being left behind by former MNA Benoît Pelletier.
Marc Carrière will try to win Chapleau, a riding that contains part of the City of Gatineau, in Quebec's Dec. 8 provincial election.
Val-des-Monts is in the Outaouais region, but is not included in the riding of Chapleau.
Pelletier represented Chapleau for the past decade and was the minister responsible for the Outaouais, but announced this week that he is retiring. Pelletier won the riding in the 2007 election with 45 per cent of the vote, far ahead of ADQ runner-up Jocelyn Dumais.
This time, the ADQ candidate for the riding is Gilles Taillon, who is second-in-command within the party.
Chapleau has been held by the Liberals continuously since 1981.
