Riding profile: Viau riding contains that part of Montreal bounded by the CN railway line, the boundary of Montreal with Montreal-North and St-Léonard, 24th Avenue, Bélanger Street and Papineau Avenue.

Riding history: Riding created in 1972 from parts of Olier, Dorion, Gouin and Jeanne-Mance ridings. In the 1992 redistribution, a part of Dorion riding was added.

In the 2001 redistribution, 4.0 per cent of the riding was moved to Gouin. The area bounded by the border of Montreal with St-Léonard, D'Hérelle Street and Pie-IX Boulevard (5,226 electors) was added in the north from Jeanne-Mance. In the northeast, the part of the city bounded by the border of Montreal with St- Léonard, 24th Avenue, Bélanger Street, Pie-IX Boulevard and the Metropolitan Highway was added from Viger.

Parti Québécois's Charles Lefebvre defeated Liberal Fernand Sauvé by 1,932 votes.

1981

Liberal William Cusano defeated Lefebvre by 4,103 votes.

1985

Cusano defeated Parti Québécois's Marie-Claire Nivolon by 9,658 votes.

1989

Cusano defeated Parti Québécois's André Corneau by 6,781 votes.

1994

Cusano defeated Parti Québécois's Raphaël Delli Gatti by 9,483 votes.

1998

Cusano defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Luc Leclerc by 13,560 votes.
