Riding history: Verdun riding was created in 1965 from the Montreal-Verdun riding. In the 1992 redistribution, Verdun lost polls in LaSalle to Marguerite-Bourgeoys and gained Verdun polls from Sainte-Anne riding when it was eliminated. Following this redistribution, the riding was comprised of 54.32 per cent of Verdun and 45.68 per cent of Sainte-Anne when compared to the previous election.

Liberal incumbent George Springate defeated Parti Québécois's Pierre Bergevin.

1976

Parti Québécois's Jean-Marc Lacoste defeated Liberal Bruno Fortin.

1981, 1985

Liberal Maximilien Polak defeated Lacoste and was re-elected in 1985.

1989

Liberal Norman Cherry defeated Parti Québécois's Gilles Cormier by 1,112 votes.

Verdun

Liberal Lucien Caron won in 1970, 1973, 1976 and 1981.

1985

Liberal Paul Gobeil defeated Parti Québécois's Paul Asselin by 7,954 votes. Served as president of the Treasury Board and minister responsible for administration, Dec. 12, 1985 to June 23, 1988; minister of international affairs, June 23, 1988 to Oct. 11, 1989.

1989

Liberal Henri-François Gautrin defeated Parti Québécois's Maurice Roch by 1,367 votes.

1994

Gautrin defeated Parti Québécois's Richard Holden by 6,429 votes.

1998

Gautrin defeated Parti Québécois's Yves Bernard by 5,771 votes.

2003

Gautrin defeated Parti Québécois's Denis Martel by 6,410 votes. Served as minister for online government, Feb. 18, 2005 to Feb. 27, 2006; minister of government services, Feb. 27, 2006 to April 18, 2007.

Gautrin defeated Parti Québécois's Richard Langlais. Currently deputy government house leader.
