Riding profile: Terrebonne is located off the northeast of Montreal Island. It is a riding that is experiencing rapid growth and is home to a number of low- to middle-income homeowners. The riding contains the communities of Terrebonne and Lachenaie within the city of Terrebonne.

Riding history: Terrebonne has existed since the 1830 election. In the 1988 redistribution, a large part of the riding moved to Masson while 17 per cent of Groulx and 11.86 per cent of Rousseau were added.

In the 1992 redistribution, a large part of Terrebonne moved to the new Blainville riding and part of Masson was gained.

The only change in the 2001 redistribution was that a small area with no electors from the western part of the riding moved to Masson.

1970, 1973

Liberal Denis Hardy defeated Parti Québécois's Guy Mercier in 1970 and 1973. He was minister of cultural affairs as of November 1973; minister of communications, 1975-76.

1976

Parti Québécois's Élie Fallu defeated Hardy. Fallu ran in Groulx in 1981.

1981, 1985

Parti Québécois's Yves Blais won in 1981 and 1985. Blais ran in Masson in 1989.

1989

Parti Québécois's Jocelyne Caron defeated Liberal Marcel Lorrain by 2,940 votes.

1994

Caron defeated Liberal Danyelle Byles by 11,444 votes. Appointed chief government whip (first woman in Quebec to be appointed whip), Aug. 25, 1997.

1998

Caron defeated Liberal François Duval by 13,057 votes.

2003

Caron defeated Liberal Marcel Théorêt by 5,925 votes.

2007

Action Démocratique du Québec's Jean-François Therrien defeated Caron.
