Riding profile: Soulanges is a rural riding that borders Ontario. It contains the following municipalities: Coteau-du-Lac, Les Cèdres, Les Coteaux. Pointe-des-Cascades. Pointe-Fortune, Rigaud, Rivière-Beaudette, Saint-Clet, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, Saint-Lazare, Sainte-Marthe, Saint-Polycarpe, Saint-Télesphore, Saint-Zotique and Très-Saint-Rédempteur.

Riding history: This riding was created in the 2001 redistribution from 33 per cent of Salaberry-Soulanges and 28 per cent of Vaudreuil. The part of Salaberry Soulanges riding west of the St. Lawrence River became part of Soulanges riding, including the municipalities of Coteau-du-Lac, Les Cèdres, Les Coteaux, Pointe-des-Cascades, Rivière-Beaudette, Saint-Clet, Saint-Polycarpe, Saint-Télesphore, Saint-Zotique (17,483 electors). Pointe-Fortune, Rigaud, Sainte-Justine-de-Newton, Sainte-Marthe, Saint-Lazare and Très-Saint-Rédempteur were added from the western part of Vaudreuil riding (15,862 electors).

1989

Liberal Serge Marcil, incumbent from Beauharnois, won in 1989. He was appointed minister of employment, Jan. 11, 1994.

1994

Parti Quebécois's Serge Deslières defeated Marcil.

1998

Deslières defeated Liberal Marie-Andrée McSween by 6,656 votes.

Vaudreuil

1989, 1994

Liberal Daniel Johnson won in 1989 and 1994. Johnson briefly served as premier, from Jan. 11, 1994, to Sept. 26, 1994, following the resignation of Robert Bourassa and prior to the 1994 election, which resulted in a Parti Québécois majority. Johnson announced his resignation on March 2, 1998.

1998

Liberal Yvon Marcoux defeated Parti Québécois Yvon Faille by 6,711 votes.

Liberal Lucie Charlebois defeated Parti Québécois Gaëtane Legault by 4,680 votes.

2007

Charlebois defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Sylvain Brazeau.
